Nonogram Rules

Filled runs

Each number in a clue is a run of filled cells. Runs appear in the same order as the numbers — the first number is the leftmost (or topmost) run in the line.

Required gaps

Between any two runs on the same line there is at least one empty cell. Before the first run and after the last one the line may be empty or start right at the edge; both are allowed.

Empty-cell marks

Marking a cell with X does not change the solution; it just records that the cell is definitely empty. Use X marks whenever a deduction rules a cell out.

Winning a puzzle

A nonogram is solved when every row clue and every column clue exactly matches the filled cells in that line. Every puzzle on this site has one unique solution — no guessing required.
